Hani Najm Global Scholar Award Observership Program:

The Hani Najm Global Scholar Award Observership Program empowers rising cardiologists from low- and middle-income countries with world-class training and knowledge exchange through participation in TCT® Plus Middle East 2026 and a U.S.-based Observership Program, gaining skills and collaborations to elevate heart care worldwide.

Key Dates

  • Application Deadline:  February 03, 2026
  • Notification of Acceptance: Three (3) scholar recipients will be informed by March 03, 2026.  Early notice will not be provided.

Scholarship Benefits Include

  • Full coverage of travel, hotel, and registration to attend TCT® Plus Middle East 2026, which is taking place April 09-11, 2026 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
  • A 3–4 week Observership, which will take place in May/June 2026 at a U.S. hospital, offering opportunities to shadow leading cardiologists and health professionals, plus a stipend for the duration of the program.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Reside and practice in a low- to middle-income country.
  • Be an early career cardiologist or cardiac surgeon, 2–10 years post-training.
  • MUST have completed formal training and be active in practice.
  • Applicants must have submitted an abstract or challenging case to TCT® Plus Middle East 2026.
  • Ability to obtain a passport and the appropriate U.S. visa.
  • Available for observership during May/June 2026.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in English.

Required Documents

  • Completed Online Application
  • Personal Statement/Letter of Intent: Explain why you should be considered for the scholarship. Highlight your professional goals, how attending the conference aligns with your career development, and the potential impact on your field.
  • Current Curriculum Vitae (CV): Professional CV outlining your publications.
  • Two (2) Letters of Recommendation from professional colleagues, mentors, program directors, department heads, or similar supervisors who can speak to your qualifications and career potential.
  • Copy of government-issued ID (for residency verification)
  • Proof of successful completion of a training program that permits independent cardiovascular practice
    • Acceptable documents: medical license, diploma/certificate from medical school, residency, or fellowship program

All documents must be submitted in PDF format and in English (or accompanied by an official translation)  

Conditions

  • Program Support: ICOM will cover flights, lodging, meeting registration, and provide a stipend for the length of the observership and TCT Plus Middle East 2026 conference.
  • Applicants are responsible for their own administrative arrangements (e.g., visa, study leave).
  • Recipients are encouraged to finalize travel arrangements promptly upon acceptance.
  • Applications and acceptances are non-transferable.

  • Reimbursement Details:
  • Reimbursements will be issued on the final day of the conference, contingent upon full attendance and participation.
  • Reimbursement is subject to timely submission of all required documentation.
  • Scholar recipients are responsible for arranging their own travel and accommodation.
  • Additional details and requirements will be provided in the acceptance letter.
